The road to Alice

A big drive today - about 780km. We were on the road by 9.15 but were pleased when we remembered we could turn the clock back 1/2 an hour. It was lot of long straight roads with very little else. We did see lots of kites and wedge tailed eagles. We turned south on to the Sturt Highway just before 11am. We stopped at Tennant Creek which I hadn't realized is quite a sizable town - although not somewhere we were keen to spend anytime. Many of the building down the main drag were closed or boarded up with security screens. We grabbed a few things at the IGA and continued heading south to the huge pile of granite boulders - the Devil's Marbles of course. We had a picnic lunch and Caitlin fed and watered the top notch pigeons. We continued driving and topped up with diesel at Ti-Tree - the dearest yet at 1.97/litre. We made it into Alice Springs around 6.00pm and found the Big 4, set up and got a pizza for dinner.
