Cape Range National Park

We had heard that during the peak season and school holidays that the camping sites along the coast in the National Park were difficult to get into with people queuing up in the early hours of the morning at the rangers station. Fortunately it wasn't that busy at this time. You need to be totally self sufficient with no water or facilities apart from compost toilets. We arrived at the gates at 9.30am and decided to go to Mesa Camping Ground. We were greeted by loads of wallaroos who seemed to be warming up on the road after the early morning rain. At the campground we met Glen & Rowena who were the campground hosts. It was a great spot, although all the shady sites were taken. Caitlin & Cooper were pleased because there were lots of other kids around including another family from Mount Martha! We settled in and went down to the beach. After lunch we went for a drive to Torquise Bay to do some snorkelling. It was a little bit choppy and the visibility wasn't fantastic but nevertheless we saw an amazing variety of fish and coral. It was a good opportunity for the kids to gain a little more confidence. We went back to the campground for 5pm 'Happy Hour' where everyone pulled up a chair and a drink. We had a chat with Andrew and Sam from Mt Martha and discovered we had quite a few mutual acquaintances. We cooked hamburgers for dinner.
